Man arrested on delivery of a controlled substance charge

The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office received information that an individual identified as Markelvin Lorenzo McHenry was involved in the distribution of methamphetamine.

According to a press release, on Wednesday, McHenry was observed attempting to deliver methamphetamine at the EZ Mart located at 6307 US Highway 59s. McHenry left the parking lot going North on US Highway 59 and was observed accelerating quickly and erratically changing lanes as he approached the intersection of North Kings Highway.

Deputy Westin Fannin conducted a traffic stop on the 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe that was being driven by McHenry. Deputy Fannin was assisted by Capt. Robby McCarver during the stop and both law enforcement officers could detect the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Lt. Brent Caudle and Investigator Dustin Thompson arrived and assisted with the stop. McHenry was asked to exit his vehicle and a search of his person revealed a substantial amount of U.S. Currency and plastic baggies holding what is believed to be marijuana.

A thorough search of McHenry’s vehicle resulted in Deputy Fannin recovering approximately 13.5 grams of methamphetamine concealed in a rear passenger air conditioning vent. McHenry possessed $1503.00 in U.S. Currency that has been filed for seizure as proceeds of drug trafficking.

Markelvin McHenry was taken to the Bi State Jail where he was booked for Delivery of a Controlled Substance Over 4 grams and Under 200 grams. He was also booked for Possession of Marijuana Under 2 ounces. His bond has been set at $20,000.00 and $1,500.00 respectively.
