Man facing aggravated assault charge after shooting

One man is in jail for aggravated assault and another in a local hospital after shooting at each other Tuesday.

According to Bowie County Chief Deputy Jeff Neal, on October 8, 2019, Bowie County deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of Valley Run Drive for two males shooting at each other. Deputy Ed Steger arrived and found Kevin Burton lying in the doorway of his mobile home suffering from a gunshot wound. Mr. Burton was transported to the hospital for treatment where his wounds were found not to be life-threatening. Witnesses informed deputies that Mr. Burton and Randy C. Pickens were involved in verbal altercation. During this squabble Mr. Pickens was actively attempting to bait Mr. Burton into a physical fight. Mr. Burton walked out to Mr. Pickens’ truck. At this point, Mr. Pickens produced a long handled object to strike Mr. Burton with. Mr. Burton retreated to his home and returned with a handgun yelling for Mr. Pickens to leave. Mr. Pickens also produced a handgun and fired at Mr. Burton striking him.

Bowie County investigators were called to process this scene and take over the investigation.

Mr. Pickens was arrested for Aggravated Assault and transported to the Bi-State Building where agreed to speak with investigators. After giving his statement, Mr. Pickens was booked into the Bi-State Jail. His bond was later set at $100,000.00.
