Police investigating stabbing on Waterman Street

The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating a stabbing that occurred near the intersection of Milam and Waterman Streets this afternoon. Kechshawn Heath, 23, of Texarkana Texas, was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in the 700 block of Lumpkin Street a short time later.

Officers found a 21 year old man running down the street at that location suffering from a stab wound to his chest area. According to witnesses, the victim and Heath had been involved in an ongoing dispute for some period of time. Today, the situation deteriorated into a physical altercation between the two men. At some point during the fight, Heath produced a knife and swung at the victim with it. The victim suffered a large cut to his torso. Heath fled the scene on foot immediately after stabbing the victim, but was located by officers at the Lumpkin Street residence approximately thirty minutes later. Heath was taken into custody without incident and transported the Bi-State Jail.

The victim was transported to Wadley Regional Medical Center by LifeNet Ambulance. As of this release, he is currently in surgery to repair the large cut to his rib cage.
