Texarkana Man Jailed After Fatal Shooting on Coca Cola Lake Road in Genoa
GENOA, Ark. — A Texarkana man is in custody after a Friday afternoon shooting in Genoa left one man dead, according to the Miller County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched to reports of shots fired on Coca Cola Lake Road at approximately 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 22. When they arrived, they found Clay Walker with a single gunshot wound to the head. Deputies began life-saving measures until Pafford EMS arrived on scene, the Sheriff’s Office said. Walker later died from his injury.
During the investigation, deputies identified the suspect as Joseph Richardson of Texarkana, who had fled the scene. Deputy Hutchens reviewed his dash camera footage and determined he had passed Richardson’s vehicle while heading to the call. The deputy was able to get the license plate number and immediately issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) on the vehicle.
Richardson was later apprehended by the Texas Department of Public Safety. He is being held in Bowie County pending extradition to Miller County.
The Miller County Sheriff’s Office extended its condolences to Walker’s family.
Sheriff Wayne Easley’s office also thanked Pafford EMS, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Game and Fish, the Texarkana Child Advocacy Center, the emergency staff at CHRISTUS St. Michael and all other agencies that assisted during the incident.
