Two deputies shot responding to house fire in DeKalb

Two Bowie County Sheriff Deputies were shot while responding to a house fire near DeKalb early Sunday morning. Both officers injuries are said to be non life-threatening.

DeKalb fire was dispatched to a fully engulfed house fire at 320 county road 4249 around 12:20 a.m. Sunday morning. Firefighters were warned that a subject at the home may be armed and dangerous and had made threats towards law enforcement.

According to fire radio traffic, the suspect chased an off duty officer off the property and threatened him. Firefighters were then told to stage out of the area.

According to radio traffic, two officers were struck by gunfire and the suspect fled the scene in a truck ramming a deputies car. The suspect was taken into custody after a short pursuit.

The officers injured or the suspect’s identities are not yet available. This is a developing story, check back for updates.
