Over 3,000 attend Race for the Cure

Dawson O’Malley wins the 2017 Komen Arkansas – Texarkana Race for the Cure in a little over 19 minutes.  Over 3,000 other racers joined him in the 3.5 mile event today, October 21, 2017.

Two weeks ago, October the 8th, the young runner was competing in a 26 mile race in Chicago.

“I feel good, but after you run you feel like you just, you know, ran,” he laughed.

The gates at Four States Fair Grounds opened at 7:00 a.m. and the race commenced at 9:00 a.m.  Numerous volunteers contributed in registering racers, assisting with the survivors’ breakfast, and picking up litter.

There were ample amounts of activities and entertainment for people of all ages and interests.  Booths were lined up to pass out free food, coffee and water, among other prizes.

Some of the sponsors were EZ Mart, Wadley Hospital, Texarkana Emergency Center, Neighbors Emergency Center, and CHRISTUS St. Michael.

The Pretty in Pink party was held yesterday, October 20, 2017 and was sponsored by Farmer’s Bank and Trust and Tamolly’s.  Entertainment was provided by Split Decision and guests gathered around the many silent auction items.
