Atlanta, Texas, lawyer arrested for allegedly smuggling meth into Cass County jail

An Atlanta, Texas, attorney was arrested Thursday afternoon for allegedly smuggling meth into the Cass County jail.

Bryan Simmons, 49, handles cases in Cass and Bowie Counties. Simmons was taken into custody Thursday afternoon and charged with possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility. Cass County District Attorney Courtney Shelton said the investigation is ongoing and that the charges could change.

Simmons was arrested in June 2009 in Bowie County for driving while intoxicated. Simmons was involved in a one-vehicle crash on his way to jury selection in a murder trial at the Bowie County courthouse in New Boston, according to news reports at the time.
