Pleasant Grove ISD Announces Jonathan Darby as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach

Pleasant Grove Independent School District is pleased to announce the hiring of Jonathan Darby as the new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, effective January 14th.

Darby brings 13 years of coaching and athletic leadership experience to his new role. Most recently, he has served as Associate Athletic Director for Pleasant Grove ISD. In addition to his administrative duties, Darby has served as Defensive Coordinator for the past 5 years and as Head Boys’ Track Coach, contributing to the continued success and competitiveness of Pleasant Grove athletics.

Prior to joining Pleasant Grove ISD, Darby coached at Texas Christian University and Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

Darby holds a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in sports management from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, as well as a master’s degree from Texas Christian University.

Superintendent Chad Pirtle expressed confidence in Darby’s leadership and familiarity with the district.

“Jonathan Darby has demonstrated a strong commitment to our student-athletes, our athletic programs, and the values of Pleasant Grove ISD,” said Pirtle. “His leadership, experience, and deep understanding of our district make him well-prepared to step into the role of Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, and we are confident he will continue to build on the tradition of excellence at Pleasant Grove.”

Darby will replace outgoing athletic director Josh Gibson, who took a job in the private sector.

Pleasant Grove ISD looks forward to the leadership and vision Darby will bring as he begins this next chapter serving student-athletes, coaches, and the Pleasant Grove community.
