On December 12, 2017, the Caddo Area Council Board of Directors voted to suspend 2018 Boy Scout Resident Camp.  This one-year hiatus will allow the council time to raise additional capital funds to make improvements at Camp Pioneer, located near Mena, Arkansas.  The council will ask our local community to participate in the fundraising campaign as we strive to bring a higher quality and memorable experience to our Scouting community.

We are developing a long term strategic plan for the operation of Camp Pioneer and Camp Preston Hunt.  This plan will include the long-term maintenance of our natural resources.

In the interim, the council will develop and implement a year-round program at Camp Pioneer that will include new events and activities for our Scouts.

Camp Pioneer and Camp Preston Hunt offer unique rustic characteristics and natural resources that provide an excellent backdrop for Scouting.

Scout Executive Anthony Escobar said, “with the growth in membership from our Cub Scout ranks, it is exciting to consider the long-term future of Camp Pioneer.”
