Wednesday morning, at approximately 9:10 a.m., in the Second Chance building located on the Arkansas High School grounds, a student reported that a fellow student told him that he had a gun in his possession. The student immediately wrote a note and gave it to the instructor. The instructor notified the Intervention Specialist, who was located in the hallway. The student was removed from the classroom, questioned and searched by the school’s TAPD Resource Officer. A small caliber handgun was located. The student did not indicate why he brought the weapon to school and at no point did he threaten anyone with the weapon. The quick response of the student and staff in the Second Chance program is an indication of the heightened awareness of safety procedures and demonstrates the importance of providing safety and security training to all staff.
