According to an Arkansas State Police preliminary crash report 38-year-old Johnie Patterson Jr. and 53-year-old Dennis Hyman Jr. of Fouke, Ark. were killed in the Monday night crash. 54-year-old Terry Bailey of Huntington, Ark. was also killed when he was struck after he stopped to help.

Patterson was traveling south on I-49 in a 2010 Ford Edge. Hyman was also southbound in a 1997 Ford Van.
According to the report the chain of accidents started when Hyman rear ended a semi-truck that had slowed due to heavy fog. The truck and Hyman’s car were then both struck by a Pontiac Aztek driven by a 35-year-old Texarkana woman who is listed as injured. Hyman was then also struck by a GMC SUV driven by a 23-year-old man from Houston, Texas who was also injured. Patterson then crashed into the back of semi-truck followed by a Chevy Avalanche.
Bailey stopped his vehicle in the outside lane of I-49 to help with the collision which had occurred in front of him when he struck by a Chevy Malibu traveling in the outside lane.
