Due to the partial government shutdown Arkansas residents eligible to receive food stamps will be able to get their February benefits early.

The state Department of Human Services will begin issuing February Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (SNAP) benefits to eligible SNAP participants early on January 17 in an effort to make sure funding is available.

According to reports, Texans who receive SNAP benefits will see them automatically loaded onto their Lone Star Card by Jan. 20.

“This is not an additional payment, so [DHS] is encouraging participants to budget accordingly for food purchases,” the release said. “Benefits will not be issued again until March, if funds are available from the federal government at that time.”
