The Texarkana Homeless Coalition’s annual Bridge City Chili Cook-Off has been rescheduled to Friday, January 30, due to inclement weather. The event was originally planned for January 23.

The fundraiser will take place at Downtown First Baptist Church, located at 401 Pine Street in Texarkana, Texas, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event is free for the public to attend.

Funds raised will support scholarships, homelessness treatment programs, and local agency training for unhoused individuals in Texarkana. This year’s theme is “80’s Movie/TV,” and attendees are encouraged to wear vibrant 80’s-inspired attire.

Chili contestants can register for a $25 entrance fee and must provide 100 samples for judges and attendees. Chili will be judged in three categories: Best Presentation, People’s Choice, and Best in Texarkana. A fourth category may be added if enough churches register.

“Bridge City Chili Cook-Off provides an opportunity for the Texarkana area to cross the socioeconomic line and identify with the plight of our neighbors for an evening while raising money to provide for their needs at the same time,” said Vashil Fernandez, Texarkana Homeless Coalition Chair.

The coalition will also conduct its annual Point-In-Time Homeless Count on Thursday, January 22. The count is required by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and provides data to secure future funding for programs that combat homelessness.
