The City of Texarkana, Texas Public Works Department began pre-treating streets Thursday ahead of expected winter weather this weekend.

Crews are focusing first on areas most vulnerable to freezing, including bridges, overpasses, low-lying or hilly sections, and critical emergency routes. Once these high-priority areas are covered, the team will extend pre-treatment to other major commercial and residential streets.

City officials emphasized that pre-treating is a preventive measure aimed at reducing hazardous conditions and helping prevent ice buildup, but it does not eliminate the possibility of icy patches or ensure all roadways will remain clear. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling during hazardous weather conditions.

Texarkana Water Utilities is also urging residents to winterize their homes now, including covering outdoor faucets, shutting off irrigation systems, and checking for cracks around windows and door frames.
