The City of Texarkana, Texas is pleased to announce that it has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) based on the City’s fiscal year ending September 30, 2017.

As the primary department designated to prepare the annual budget, the Finance Department will also receive a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation.

This award represents a significant achievement by staff. According to a press release by the GFOA, applicants must be rated as proficient in four categories that gauge the document’s ability to serve as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device to receive this award. Each category has mandatory criteria that must also be met at the proficient level by applicants.

“Once again the City’s Finance Department has been rewarded for their continuous efforts to ensure that our city’s financial narrative is clearly and effectively communicated for the benefit of our residents,” said Shirley Jaster, city manager. “Under the leadership of Kristin Peeples, staff in the Finance Department have succeeded at keeping our citizens first by providing them with high quality, precise financial documents.”

The City of Texarkana, Texas also received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from GFOA in August 2017.
