Civil War Weekend Returns To Prescott With Battle Of Prairie D’Ane Reenactment Nov. 7

PRESCOTT, Ark. — The thunder of cannon fire will roll across Nevada County again this fall as Civil War Weekend returns to the Prairie D’Ane Battlefield with a full reenactment of the 1864 battle.

The Nevada County Depot Museum will host the event Saturday, Nov. 7, with the battle reenactment beginning at 11 a.m. at the historic battlefield site, located at 2243 Highway 19 North in Prescott. Trained living-history interpreters will bring the engagement to life on the same ground where Union and Confederate forces clashed more than 160 years ago.

The Battle of Prairie D’Ane was fought in April 1864 as part of the Camden Expedition, when Union forces under Maj. Gen. Frederick Steele pushed south through Arkansas and met Confederate resistance on the open prairie near present-day Prescott.

After the battle, visitors can tour authentically recreated Federal and Confederate encampments, where reenactors will demonstrate daily military life, period equipment and the skills soldiers relied on in the field. Food vendors and tradesmen will be set up on site throughout the day.

Admission is 0 per vehicle, with parking available on site.

Civil War Weekend is a joint effort between the Nevada County Depot Museum and Historic Washington State Park. Organizers say the partnership reflects a regional commitment to preserving and interpreting Arkansas history — and this year, to marking America’s 250th anniversary by remembering the struggles that shaped the nation.

The Nevada County Depot Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit humanities organization dedicated to preserving and sharing regional history. Historic Washington State Park, one of Arkansas’ oldest towns, preserves the state’s Territorial-era history.
