Congressman Ratcliffe presented a “Lone Star Award” to Ark-La-Tex Council of Governments worker, Earnest Briggs, for his selfless efforts to save a woman’s life while on the job.

Briggs, who works at ATCOG as a driver in the low-cost transportation program called TRAX, was driving one of his regular routes one day when an elderly women he was scheduled to pick up would not answer the door and repeatedly said she wanted to cancel her trip – something she’d never done before.

Sensing something was wrong, Briggs took action to make sure the woman was checked on by her family before moving onto his next scheduled assignment. His efforts led to a family member rushing to check on the woman, who was found to be in a critical medical condition from which she would have died had she not received help.

Rep. Ratcliffe launched the Lone Star Award program as a way to recognize constituents in Texas’ Fourth District who perform significant actions of kindness and compassion in hopes that highlighting their stories could inspire others in our communities.
