FINDLAY, Ohio, January 20, 2015 – Cooper Tire announced today that its CS5 Touring tire has earned a 2014 GOOD DESIGN™ Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies. The CS5 was selected from several thousands of entries from more than 47 countries.
The GOOD DESIGN™ Award is one of the world’s most prestigious and longest-standing design award programs recognizing new consumer products designed and manufactured in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North and South America. The award is based on criteria including innovative design, new technologies, form, materials, construction, concept, function, utility, energy efficiency, and sensitivity to the environment.
Cooper’s innovative CS5 Touring tire is a premium all-season performance tire featuring Cooper’s innovative Wear Square™ a visual tread wear indicator that gives consumers a convenient way to gauge the amount of wear on the tread of the tire. Tread wear is one indicator of when a tire should be replaced. The tire’s second generation silica tread compound, combined with an asymmetric tread design, improves wet handling, shortens stopping distance and lowers rolling resistance for improved fuel mileage. The patented Stabiledge™ technology and specially developed 3D Micro-Gauge sipes help the CS5 Touring deliver better road traction and controlled handling around curves.
“Earning the GOOD DESIGN™ Award for our new CS5 Touring tire from the most longstanding and recognized programs for design excellence is proof of Cooper’s continued commitment to producing innovative, quality products that perform,” said Scott Jamieson, the company’s Director, Product Management. “It’s truly Cooper’s most impressive touring tire yet and the first to feature our innovative Wear Square tread depth indicator.”
