January 23, 2015 | Texas DPS captured Derrick Garton this afternoon in New Boston, according to Bowie County Sheriff’s Department.
DPS arrested Garton after he was stopped in vehicle near his parent’s home in New Boston, Texas, according to Bowie County Investigator Tina Lee.
“He did not comply with the sexual offender registration by not providing us with a good address where he was supposed to be staying,” stated Lee. “He was supposed to turn himself in this morning and failed to do so. DPS went out to the residence where we knew he was located. We were trying to give him an opportunity to come in on his own. He was taking a lot of time to do that. DPS decided to try to locate him and arrest him,” stated Lee.
“GARTON is a high risk sex offender who was wanted by Bowie County SO for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements and for Forgery to Defraud or Harm Another. He had served time in Texas Department of Criminal Justice prison for convictions for Indecency with a Child by Sexual Contact and Burglary of a Habitation,” stated Texas DPS website.
“Derrick Kyle Garton, added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender list on January 21, 2015, was taken into custody, without incident, near a residence in New Boston, Texas. The Texas DPS Criminal Investigations Division, Texas Highway Patrol, and Bowie County Sheriff’s Office were involved in his arrest,” according to the DPS website.
“Tip information received by the Texas Crime Stoppers Program did not lead to the arrest of GARTON and no reward will be paid,” stated the DPS website.
