Five-Year Prison Term Handed Down in Texas-to-Mexico Firearms Trafficking Scheme

A Royse City man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for his role in a firearms trafficking operation, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas.

Abigael Colin Saldana, 28, a Mexican national living in the United States illegally, pleaded guilty to trafficking firearms and received a 60-month sentence from U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant, III on January 21.

According to court documents, Saldana participated in a firearms trafficking conspiracy beginning in 2021 that moved weapons from Texas to Mexico.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative targeting illegal immigration, cartels, and transnational criminal organizations.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Johnson handled the prosecution.
