High mast lighting will replace the typical street lights at several interchanges along Interstate 30 in Bowie and Titus Counties during the coming year, according to plans approved in November by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
“The new lighting will be have banks of bright LED lights on masts 150 feet tall,” said Rebecca Wells, district traffic engineer for TxDOT in Atlanta. “This helps illuminate the entire interchange instead of just around the typical light poles currently used.”
The new high mast lighting will be installed at interchanges with I-30 in Bowie County at FM 561, FM 990 and SH 98; and in Titus County at Spur 185, US 271, Bus. 271, FM 1402 and FM 1001.
South Texas Illumination of Winona, TX, was awarded the contract for these projects with a bid of $1.8 million.
Work on the projects should begin in February of next year and take about 15 months to complete, Wells said.
