On Set Cinema will host a special 50th anniversary celebration of “The Town That Dreaded Sundown” in downtown Texarkana on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

The event will feature screenings of both the 1976 original film and the 2014 sequel, which were inspired by the real-life “Moonlight Murders” that terrorized Texarkana in 1946. The unsolved case involved a masked killer known as the Phantom Killer who targeted young couples.

The 1976 film, directed by Charles B. Pierce, will be screened at the historic Silvermoon on Broad building in downtown Texarkana, Texas, near the old McCartney Hotel and Union Station building where portions of the film were shot.

Prior to the Texas screening, attendees can participate in a walking tour of downtown Texarkana filming locations from both movies while learning about the history of the Moonlight Murders.

Following the first screening, a second showing of the 2014 sequel will take place at The Art Station in Texarkana, Arkansas, which served as a filming location for the movie.

Stunt actor Andy Abele, who physically portrayed the Phantom Killer in the 2014 film, will attend as a special guest. Abele, whose credits include “Looper,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” and “True Detective,” will sign autographs, take photos with fans, join the walking tour, and participate in a Q&A session.
