A section of Interstate 30 through Titus, Morris and much of Bowie Counties will receive a new riding surface next year according to plans approved in December by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

“We will be resurfacing about 45 miles of the highway from the Franklin County Line in Titus County to State Highway 98 in Bowie County,” said Roger Ledbetter, area engineer for TxDOT in Mount Pleasant. “Some of the old pavement will be repaired and then the entire roadway will be repaved.”

In addition to the paving work, bridge railing and metal beam guard fence will be replaced on the Interstate throughout all three counties.

R. K. Hall of Paris, TX., was awarded the contract for the construction project with a low bid of $33.9 million.

Work on the project should begin in February and take about two and one-half years to complete, Ledbetter said.
