John Keith Rutledge, 83, of Texarkana, Texas, passed away on July 10, 2026, with his beloved wife of 65 years, Judy Rutledge, by his side, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Texarkana, Texas, John—affectionately known as “Grandy” to his family—lived a life marked by humility, hard work, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before building a successful career in heating and air conditioning. Although many knew him through his profession, those closest to him knew there was very little he couldn’t fix. Whether it was something around the house, a project for a friend, or a challenge that needed solving, John approached every task with patience, determination, and quiet confidence. He found fulfillment in working with his hands and took pride in leaving things better than he found them.

On June 3, 1961, John married the love of his life and best friend, Judy. Together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage built on faith, love, laughter, and steadfast commitment. Their marriage was the foundation of their family and John’s greatest pride. Side by side, they built a life filled with cherished memories, unconditional love, and a family that became the greatest blessing of his life.

Above all else, John treasured his family. Nothing brought him more joy than having everyone together, sharing stories that grew better with every telling, reminiscing about years gone by, and watching his family continue to grow. His grandchildren knew him simply as Grandy, a name that will forever bring to mind his gentle spirit, steady presence, and unconditional love. He was a steady source of comfort and encouragement, and his family always knew they could count on him. Those are the memories they will carry with them forever.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Judy Rutledge; his daughters, Sandy Young and her husband, Johnny, and Sharon Turner and her husband, Chad; his grandchildren, Brad, Kayla, Haley, Hayden, and Raeleigh; his great-grandchildren, Kessleigh, Kynzlie, and Kyndle; several beloved nieces and nephews, including Christy, Mark, Jere, and Christopher “Bubba”; and his brother-in-law, Larry Willis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lottie and Keith Rutledge, and his sisters, Linda Willis and Paula Gibson.

John’s legacy reaches far beyond the things he built with his hands. It lives on in the enduring love he shared with Judy, the family they built together, the values he quietly instilled, and the memories that will continue to be shared for generations. He will be remembered for his integrity, servant’s heart, unwavering work ethic, and the simple, faithful way he loved his family every single day. Though he will be deeply missed, his example and his love will remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Chapelwood Funeral Home, with Brother Rick Rothwell officiating. Visitation will be held an hour before service. Grandy, will be in state on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Chapelwood Funeral Home.
