NEW BOSTON, Texas: A jury was selected Tuesday at the Bowie County courthouse in New Boston to decide the case of a man accused of sexually abusing a young girl.
Tonny Obray Ezernack, 39, allegedly lived in a house on Peggy Street in New Boston with a number of adults and young children at the time the allegations were brought to the attention of the New Boston Police Department, according to a probable cause affidavit. The mother of an 11-year-old girl told officers she found text messages on her daughter’s phone which led her to conclude something inappropriate was happening between her child and Ezernack.
Ezernack allegedly confessed to sexually abusing the girl when interviewed by investigators. He allegedly told them he had sexual contact with the girl while she was 10 and 11 years old approximately 50 or 60 times.
Ezernack is under indictment for the continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14. He is facing 25 to 99 years or life in prison if found guilty.
Ezernack is represented by Texarkana attorney Butch Dunbar. First Assistant District Attorney Michael Shepherd and Assistant District Attorney Katie Carter are prosecuting the case. The trial is being presided over by 202nd District Judge John Tidwell.
