A Texarkana, Ark., man accused of running over and killing his wife in March is scheduled for jury selection this month.
Lucas McCarley was allegedly trying to get away from his wife, 35-year-old Casey McCarley, when he drove over and killed her March 3 on Miller County Road 22 shortly after midnight, according to a search warrant affidavit. Lucas McCarley was in the company of another woman who told deputies Casey McCarley had used her car to block her husband’s pickup and was walking toward the truck on foot when Lucas McCarley fatally struck her.
Deputies allegedly found a small amount of methamphetamine, a pipe used to smoke the drug and prescription pain killers in Lucas McCarley’s truck. Lucas McCarley faces five to 30 years if convicted of negligent homicide as a previously convicted felon, and up to 12 years on each of the two drug charges, if convicted as an habitual offender.
At the time of his arrest, Lucas McCarley was serving two, five-year felony probation terms which began in 2014 after he plead guilty to felony theft of property and felony breaking and entering. Probation officials have filed petitions in both cases seeking to revoke the probationary terms and send McCarley to prison on those offenses.
McCarley is being held without bond on the probation revocations and bail on the charges connected to his wife’s death is set at $150,000.
