Prepare thee lords and maidens!

“This an independently produced event that is coordinated by a dedicated group of Texarkana locals. This year, the faire is going to be bigger and better,” said Hollie Ramsey, one of the organizers.
“We will have more merchants, games and activities – including our new Pirate’s Cove featuring Captain Bryton Asher and the Pirates of Texarkana – a kid’s craft booth, archery lessons, pony rides and a petting zoo provided by CK Ranch Pony Parties, a demonstrating blacksmith, and Captain Jack Sparrow’s School for Young Pirates and more,” she said.

People are encouraged to join in on the fun and come out in costume, but it most certainly is not required, Ramsey said.

Ramsey said their costumes come from all over and many are made by hand.

“Some are handmade, some bought at other fairs, but we mostly shop the Internet. Our most commonly used online shop for renaissance garb is http://etsy.com,” she said. Etsy.com is an Internet site that teaches people how to craft their own items.

And Ramsey said the group is donating part of their proceeds to the Texarkana Museums System because “like the Texarkana Renaissance Faire, the Texarkana Museums System is a historically focused group that is in need of more recognition and support from the community,” she said.

“It offers several ways to explore Texarkana’s past, present and future by managing and operating the Museum of Regional History, Discovery Place, Ace of Clubs House and P.J. Ahern House, and we are more than happy to help support this wonderful nonprofit.”
