A&M-Texarkana to host visiting students from Hong Kong

Texas A&M University-Texarkana will welcome a 15-member delegation from The Education University of Hong Kong to Texarkana next week for a campus and community visit and a best practices in education workshop.

The delegation of 13 doctoral students and two academic administrators from EduHK will tour Texarkana on Thursday, May 25, with stops at the Texarkana USA Chamber of Commerce, the State Line Post Office and Federal Building, Texarkana’s Old Town, the Perot Theatre and lunch at Pecan Point Brewing Company.

Accompanying the students will be Dr. Sing Kai Lo, associate vice president of graduate studies and dean of the Graduate School at EduHK; Charlotte Wong, international outreach study program coordinator at EduHK; and Jennifer Felps, director of International Studies at A&M-Texarkana.

“Our upcoming visit from the EduHK delegation is an exciting component that aligns with our university’s goal of strengthening international ties while also expanding the global mindsets of our campus community and beyond,” Felps said.

A&M-Texarkana will host a reception for the delegation on Thursday, May 25, from 4:30-6 p.m. in the fourth floor atrium of the University Center on the A&M-Texarkana campus, 7101 University Ave., Texarkana, Texas.

On Friday, May 26, the delegation will join area educators for the 2017 Best Practices Workshop hosted by the A&M-Texarkana Education department, International Studies, and Research and Graduate Studies from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Eagle Hall of the University Center.

“The workshop will provide a forum for classroom teachers and Hong Kong educators to exchange experiences, best practices and ideas related to current education issues emerging in the United States and Hong Kong,” said Dr. Abbie Strunc, assistant professor of education and coordinator of the workshop.

The meeting will begin with a meet-and-greet breakfast. Session topics for the remainder of the day include early childhood, inclusive special education practices, culturally responsive instruction, current research methods and teaching with technology.

The Education University of Hong Kong is a publicly funded institution dedicated to the advancement of teaching and learning through a diverse offering of academic and research programs on teacher education and complementary social sciences and humanities disciplines. According to the 2016 QS World University Rankings, EduHK is ranked 12th in the world and second in Asia in the field of education.
