Man attacks handcuffed neighbor he suspects committed burglary

A man is in custody after leading police on a short chase Thursday afternoon in Nash.

According to Nash Police Detective Michael Sutton officers were investigating a burglary on Ashlee Blvd. when they discovered a neighbor smoking marijuana in his car in the driveway. When an officer attempted to make contact with the subject he backed out and proceeded a short distance in his car before bailing out on foot said Sutton.

An officer observed the suspect cut back and enter his residence from the rear. Police made entry into the duplex and arrested the suspect after a short search.

As officers brought the suspect out he was attacked by one of his neighbors who suspected him of the Burglary said Sutton. Officers deployed pepper spray and quickly separated the parties.

The man that ran was arrested for evading in a vehicle and on foot, a drug charge, and outstanding warrants. Another subject on scene was arrested for interfering with a police investigation.
