The Texarkana Texas Police Department is investigating an incident where Andrew Robinson, 20, of Texarkana Texas, died after stabbing himself multiple times on New Boston Road early Sunday morning.
Officers were dispatched to the Walmart Supercenter, located at 4000 New Boston Road, to the report of a naked man in the parking lot who was armed with a knife at 3:15 on Sunday morning. The first arriving officer located Andrew Robinson, who was now only wearing black shorts, near the fuel pumps and confronted him. The officer ordered him to drop the knife, which he immediately did but picked it back up again after only a few seconds. Robinson ignored additional commands to drop the knife and instead began to walk east along New Boston Road with the officers following him. As they neared the Jarvis Parkway overpass, the officers saw Robinson making thrusting movements toward his body with the knife and then noticed blood on his stomach. Robinson then ran toward a vehicle that was stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of New Boston Road and Sowell Lane, but the vehicle quickly backed away from Robinson to keep him from reaching them. One officer deployed their JPX Pepper Gun at Robinson in an effort to take him into custody, but it was ineffective. K-9 Argus was then released and apprehended Robinson on his left buttocks, knocking him to the ground. Robinson tried to run away, but was quickly subdued by an officer and taken into custody.
After Robinson was handcuffed, the officers were able to assess his condition and discovered at least two stab wounds to his chest. They provided first aid until LifeNet transported Robinson to Christus St. Michael, where he died a short time later.
Robinson’s body was sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences of Dallas for an autopsy.
