Master Gardeners taking applications for training class

The Bowie County Master Gardeners, a volunteer organization, is seeking applicants for its 2016 training class. Classes are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays from Jan. 11 to Feb 25 at Texarkana College TexAmerica’s Center in Hooks.

Couples may participate together for a reduced fee of $200 if they share a training manual. People with special needs wanting to participate are asked to notify officials in advance for necessary accommodations.

Interns, or trainees, must complete the 50-plus-hour training course and provide 50 hours of service to approved projects to become Certified Texas Master Gardeners. To retain certification, Texas Master Gardeners must provide at least 12 hours of service and attend at least six hours of continuing education annually.

Cost for the intern class is $125 per person, which includes the training manual, first year Master Gardener dues, a name tag, and a required criminal background check.
