Authorities are investigating to determine if a human skull found Monday near Bradley, Ark. in Lafayette County may be linked to a Miller County missing person case.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office said that at 1:30 p.m. Monday, it was notified that workers who were planting trees in a clear cut area came upon what they believed to be a human skull.
The Sheriff’s Office responded and determined that the skull was human. It called Arkansas State Police investigators.
On Tuesday, around 30 volunteers from across the county, Arkansas State Police, Miller County, Columbia County, and Arkansas Game and Fish lined up to do a complete grid search to see if any other remains could be located.
They found several bones that will be sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab along with the skull to determine whether they are human remains or animal remains.
Also located during the search was a 2006 white GMC that has been connected to a missing person’s case from Miller County since 2015. Miller County has impounded this vehicle for investigation purposes.
A case fitting the description is Eric Jones, 24, who has been missing from Miller County. He was reported missing after July 8, 2015, when he told his parents that he was going to do some scrap metal work at a mobile home park on U.S. 67. He drove a white-colored 2006 GMC longbed truck.
The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office has not received any results from the Crime Lab.
Lafayette County Sheriff Obie Sims thanked volunteers who came out to search the woods. He also thanked the Bradley Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary for furnishing meals for the volunteers.
