Nashville, Ark — The Nashville Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred at approximately 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014. Officers responded to a shooting at the 1300 block of South Main Street in Nashville, said Assistant Chief of Police Amy Marion.
The victim, Pamela Harris, 44, was pronounced dead at Howard Memorial Hospital. Harris was shot with a small caliber handgun. The suspected gunman, Gary Dwayne Swift, 49, was arrested at 12:18 p.m. without incident, according to police. Swift was living in Ozan, Ark.
Swift appeared in court today for his first appearance. His charges are Murder First Degree, Terroristic Act, and Possession of Firearms by Certain Persons. Bond has been set at $500,000.
Officers who assisted in the case include the Arkansas State Police, the Howard County Sheriff’s Department, the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Department, and the Mineral Springs Police Department.
Harris, who lived in Nashville, leaves behind a husband and five children.
