No injuries in accident involving school bus

No injuries were reported in an accident involving a Bowie County Transportation Bus, which took place at approximately 8 a.m., Tuesday morning in Texarkana. The bus was transporting Texas High School students.

According to TTPD, officers responded to the report of the crash near the intersection of Summerhill Road and New Boston Road at 8:09 this morning.

Authorities say the investigation revealed that the school bus, driven by Evleylee Browner, 48, of Ozan, Arkansas, was westbound on New Boston Road and had stopped for the traffic signal at Summerhill Road. A Ford F-150 truck was also westbound on New Boston Road behind the bus. Unable to stop after seeing the stopped bus, the truck struck the bus in the rear. The truck’s driver, Joel McCorkle, 27, of Texarkana, Arkansas, was cited for Failure to Control Speed.

Authorities say 27 students were being transported to Texas High School during the accident. TISD Executive Director of Public Relations says the bus was not a TISD owned bus or staff driver.

According to TISD SUperintendent Paul Norton a few students were checked out by LifeNet on scene but none were transported to local hospitals.

All of the students have been transferred to a new bus and taken to school.The school bus suffered only minor damage. The Ford F-150 was disabled and had to be towed from the scene.
