As of January 1st, open carry law is in effect in the state of Texas, making it the 45th state to pass the law.
Although some states allow open carry without a permit or license, Texas requires all persons to obtain a concealed handgun permit in order to open carry.
Shawn Vaughn with TTPD explained some other rules regarding open carry, explaining that the gun must be carried in a shoulder or belt holster.
Some places prohibit concealed or open carry of any firearm such as schools, hospitals, airports, courts, and any private businesses also have the option of choosing to prohibit open carry in their establishments.
