Passenger killed in early morning motorcycle accident

A Mount Pleasant, Texas woman was killed in a single vehicle motorcycle accident on Interstate 49 early Saturday morning near State Highway 237.

According to an Arkansas State Police Fatal Crash Summary, 38-year-old Jennifer Vandenberg was pronounced dead on scene after a tire blew out on the motorcycle she was riding on as a passenger.

The report states that the driver lost control due to a tire blowout causing the motorcycle to overturn.

The accident happened at 1:45 a.m. Saturday morning and caused southbound I-49 traffic to be diverted onto Highway 71.

The driver, 37-year-old Vernon Vandenberg, was transported to CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital with unknown injuries.

This was the 140th fatality on Arkansas roads this year.
