Police Arrest Alleged Assault and Hit & Run Suspect After Chase

TEXARKANA, TEXAS – Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at W. 4th Street and Lake Drive this afternoon at approximately 4:15 p.m. When they arrived, the female victim advised that Michael Gooden, 32, of Texarkana, Texas had choked her during an altercation in the 400 block of Spruce and left in a tan Jeep.
Other officers located the vehicle a few minutes later and attempted to stop it at W. 5th and Spruce Streets. However, it fled north on Spruce, and the officers quickly lost sight of it. Officers then found the suspect vehicle at Spruce and New Boston Road, where it had been involved in a crash. As the officers arrived, Gooden immediately fled again – this time on foot. He was located a second time near the intersection of W. 13th and Cedar Streets and resisted arrest. The suspect bit one officer on the hand during the struggle that ended in Swampoodle Creek. Officers were then able to place Gooden under arrest and transported him to the Texarkana Jail.

He was charged with Evading Arrest, Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, Failure to Stop and Render Aid, and Assault Against a Government Employee.
