Police close one lane of I-30 due to possible suicidal person on Summerhill bridge

12:45 p.m. Monday | Texarkana, Texas police officers were able to prevent a 19 year old Texarkana man from jumping from a highway overpass.

Monday at 12:45 p.m. police were called to a suicide threat on the Summerhill Road – Interstate 30 overpass.

When the officers arrived they found the man sitting on the edge of the bridge saying that he was going to jump. One of the westbound lanes of Interstate-30 was closed and traffic was diverted around the scene while officers tended to the suicidal man.

The officers were able to convince the man to change his mind after about 20 minutes.

According to Texarkana, Texas Police public information officer Sergeant Mike Jones,  “Once down from the bridge’s edge, the man was transported to CHRISTUS St. Michael for a mental evaluation.”
