A man charged with rape in Miller County allegedly put drugs in an 18-year-old girl’s drink before sexually assaulting her.

Michael Lane Walraven, 23, and the alleged victim were friendly acquaintances before he contacted her and invited her to come over Feb. 12, according to a probable cause affidavit. While at Walraven’s home in Texarkana, Ark., the girl claims she was given a Bud Light Straw-Ber-Rita to drink.

The girl reported that she became sick and dizzy after consuming about half a can of the adult beverage and asked Walraven if she could borrow his bed to rest. The girl allegedly told police that when she told Walraven to stop as he climbed on top of her he told her to, “shut up,” and had sex with her.

The girl reported she woke the next morning back in her room at her parent’s home but had no memory of how she got there. The girl reported the assault after disclosing it to a school counselor.

Walraven could be sentenced to 10 to 40 years or life if convicted. He is currently in Miller County custody. At a hearing in May, bail was set at $25,000 and Walraven was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victim.
