Scout-O-Rama is in full swing all weekend at Spring Lake Park in Texarkana, Texas. The event provides opportunities for scouts to display the skills they have learned in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, as well as provide insight into the scouting experience for those who aren’t already involved.
Troops from the four states region and beyond are camping out through Sunday to participate in activities like church at sunrise on Sunday, the ICS Chili Cook-Off sponsored by Hormel Chili, Pinewood Derby races, live 1800’s era cannon fire, blacksmiths and bladesmiths, hot air balloons, and more.
Charles Norton, Scout-O-Rama Chairman, said proudly, “We aren’t exactly sure of the numbers yet, but we think it has increased since the last few years.”
Scouts traveled from as far as Illinois to participate in this unique scouting experience among their fellow brothers and sisters. Boy Scout Troops, Venture Crews, Sea Scouts, Webelos, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Civil Air Patrol, and more are all gathering on the grounds to learn new skills, meet new friends, and gain new patches.
The weekend-long event provides an outdoor, family friendly agenda where everyone can find something to enjoy. Tonight after dark at approximately 8:30 PM, the public is invited to watch the fireworks display from other locations in and around the Park.
