TAPD asks FBI to take over inmate death investigation

According to Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department Public Information Officer Corporal Kristi Bennett a review of the initial death investigation by Texarkana Police Department Detectives warrants an outside investigation.

“Chief Robert H. Harrison contacted the Little Rock Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation late Thursday afternoon and asked them to take over the death investigation of inmate Michael Sabbie, who was in custody of LaSalle Corrections Corporation,” said Bennett.

According to police they were notified at approximately 6:30 a.m. Wednesday morning by jail staff that TAPD inmate, Michael Sabbie, was found in his cell unresponsive by corrections personnel.

According to police he was in a cell by himself. “Our Jail medical staff provided immediate CPR and LifeNet Paramedics were called to the jail.”
