Texarkana College Sage Programs Bring Together Citizens in “Third Stage” of Life

Texarkana College’s Sage program engages citizens in the “third stage” of life in thoughtful discussion and stimulating activities to enrich their day-to-day living. Sage programming primarily benefits mature adults who are age 46 and up and who are seeking a like-minded community.

Dr. Beverly Rowe, professor of history at Texarkana College and notable author on Texarkana history, serves as a host for the Sage program. Along with a group of engaged community leaders, Rowe designed the program as a catalyst for seasoned adults to remain active in the community and network with others of similar interests.

“The mission of Sage is to provide opportunities to exercise collective wisdom with others who claim the same reference points throughout their lives and who are interested in traveling, discussing, getting together, and having a lot of fun,” Rowe said. “The free sessions offered this summer will introduce citizens to the types of programs we offer through Sage. We hope this will open the door of opportunity for increased membership in the year-round program.”

Two series of free programs will be offered this summer: Armchair Traveler and Sage Summer Talks. Both series have unique focuses and feature presentations by local specialists on the subjects.

The Armchair Traveler series is a seven-session travelogue class covering Japan, Italy, Costa Rica, Israel, Peru, France, and New Orleans. Sessions will be 90 minutes long and will be held on Monday evenings from 6-7:30 PM in the Old Town Exhibit meeting space at 202 E. Broad Street, Texarkana, Arkansas. Refreshments will be served and RSVPs are encouraged—those interested may RSVP by calling Dr. Beverly Rowe at 903-748-1235 or Beverly.Rowe@texarkanacollege.edu.
