A Texarkana man was seriously injured after being punched in the face by a ticket hawker while visiting New York City Monday.

According to a gofundme page raising money for medical and travel expenses, Texarkana residents Jeff and Shellye White went to New York for a short trip. Monday afternoon Jeff was punched in the face and knocked to the frozen ground by a ticket hawker. He suffered a head injury and was rushed to the hospital. He has multiple skull fractures and a small bleed outside of the brain. Overall the test results have been positive and hopefully will not require surgery. He has recently been transferred to a room.

According to a New York Post article, two Statute of Liberty ticket scammers have been arrested. Robert Andersen has been charged with felony assault and Teresa Thorson with assault. According to the article, it is believed Andersen was working in tandem with Thorson when they came upon the couple Monday afternoon.

“Thorson approached them and tried to illegally sell them passes around 3:30 p.m., police say. When William declined, Andersen allegedly punched him in the face.”

According to the gofundme page they are unsure of how long he will be in the hospital or how they will get back home. Jeff and Shellye are both unable to work during this time and are forced to be away from their three young daughters who are staying in Texarkana with family.
