Beginning early 2020, the Texarkana Regional Airport is scheduled to commence construction on a new terminal that should be completed by spring 2024.

Anticipated advantages of the new terminal:

  • Modernized safety and security
  • Airport access from I-49, avoiding the RR crossing
  • A Jet-Way that will allow passengers to be free from the elements while boarding

Mike Mellinger, Airport Director at Texarkana Regional Airport, says this is thanks to a grant from the Airport Improvement Program sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Going on to say, “The primary focus of the FAA grant is safety and security,” and he looks forward to having, “Great connections going east.”

American Eagle Airlines has expressed an interest in utilizing the new terminal, according to Mellinger. “However, additional airlines could be included in the expansion.”

The local timber industry is the inspiration for the terminal’s woodsy theme.

With room for two gates, the new terminal will have space available for restaurants when necessity allows.
