Eager faces filled the room this morning as Mrs. Tracy Jones’s pre-school class at St. James Day School awaited their “adopted” family to arrive.
Twelve pre-schoolers filled with excitement waited patiently to shower each member of their adopted family with love and gifts; including clothes, toys and beds.
Mrs. Tracy Jones’s preschool class “adopted” a family in need in the Opportunities Inc. Early Head Start program as part of their community service project – a project created to teach the class to give back.
Tuesday morning, the class met the members of the family and had a chance to give them gifts they carefully wrapped and even sang Christmas carols to the family.
The recipient family is made up of a mother and five children ranging in age from 1 to 11 years who were selected to receive gifts that would meet their basic needs as well as gifts for the children that would bring them joy this Christmas.
As part of their gifts the family received beds, up until this morning the family had been sharing pallets.
Antoinette Finley, mother of five, expressed with tears in her eyes how thankful she and her children were to be receiving gifts they truly needed.
