Train collision in downtown Texarkana causes derailment

Two trains have collided in downtown Texarkana, Texas derailing one locomotive, pushing four cars off the tracks and causing no major injuries. The two trains collided near the rail yard in Texarkana, Texas around the viaduct and Phenie Street at approximately 12:40 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2015.

The train that was derailed was carrying auto parts and automobiles and is now laying on its side off the tracks.

According to officials no hazardous materials were involved in the collision.

According to Fire Chief Eric Schlotter, the driver engineer of one Union Pacific train was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene by emergency personnel.

Crews are currently on scene removing wreckage from the tracks.
