The Texarkana Twins defeated the Victoria Generals 9-5 in front of a loud crowd at George Dobson Field. The Twins hit their first two home runs of the season and completed a strong 3-1 record for the homestand. The Twins also honored American military veterans as a part of their Military Appreciation Day at the ballpark.

The first two batters of the game, Garrett Hastings and Gunner Halter led the game off with a single and a stolen base each, putting pressure on the Generals pitching staff from the start. Hudson Hopkins would later knock in Hastings on a sac fly. The Twins burst the game wide open in the second inning, scoring four runs off starter Evan Maize, centered around a three-run home run for Matt McDonald, his first of the season. After tacking on another run in the third inning, the Twins added a pair of runs in the 5th inning to put the game out of reach. In the 8th inning, Hudson Hopkins hit his first home run of the year, to complete the scoring for Texarkana. Starting Pitcher Zach Pinkston picked up the win for Texarkana after completing 6 innings of work, allowing only 7 hits, 3 runs, and 2 walks, while also striking out a pair of Generals.

Texarkana Manager Jake Mitzner was very proud of the team’s effort today and the way the team came out and competed, “The boys played hard today and I am very proud of them. In the TCL, the season is so condensed you have to stay on top of your game every night and with a long road trip coming up, taking care of business at home was a must.”

The Generals, once again continued to struggle to solve the starting pitching for Texarkana. The ball club also struggled with runners in scoring position, costing them several opportunities to score and narrow the margin. Generals starting pitcher, Evan Maize, struggled today as he only completed 4 innings of work, allowing 8 hits, 6 runs, 2 walks, with 2 wild pitches and a balk. The biggest worry for Victoria came in the field, as they committed five errors.

The Twins now head out on the road to take on the Brazos Valley Bombers in Bryan, Texas. There they will begin a two-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Twins will return to Texarkana on June 6th to take on the Texas Marshalls.
