TxDOT has closed the access road to the spillway off of U.S. 59 due to the large number of recent wrecks at the intersection.
“We worked with the Army Corp of Engineers in deciding to close the intersection in order to reduce possible traffic conflicts of traffic entering and exiting US 59 at the location.” said TxDOT spokesperson Marcus Sandifer. “All traffic needing to get to the spillway area will need to detour onto FM 2148 and then take the COE road to their desired location.”
According to Sandifer all traffic has been restricted to the southbound lanes of U.S. 59 between FM 2148 in Bowie County and FM 3129 in Cass County while construction work is being conducted on the northbound lanes of US 59 between the Sulphur River and FM 3129.
The access roadway will be reopened once traffic reverts back to normal operations.
