The University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana today announced that every student, faculty, and staff will be protected by Rave Panic Button for a faster response to on-campus emergencies including active shooter incidents.

Rave Panic Button will enable university staff to notify 9-1-1 and on–site personnel of an emergency, instantly resulting in a much faster response time and providing a higher level of protection for the more than 1,500 students, faculty and staff.

“Rave Panic Button allows us to leverage the existing Smart 911 service to inform 9-1-1 call takers and first responders of key on-site information in an emergency,” said Honorable Haskell Morse, Hempstead County Judge.

Rave Panic Button, provided by Rave Mobile Safety, shortens the time between the onset of an incident and the arrival of first responders. In an emergency, a staff member selects the type of emergency – active shooter, police, fire, EMS or other – by clicking one of the five buttons in the application. The app immediately connects to 9-1-1 while simultaneously notifying the designated personnel of the location and nature of the emergency.

Through Smart 911, first responders automatically receive critical data that has been provided by the school, such as the caller’s exact location, floor plans, emergency exit locations, emergency contacts and key procedures and can deliver critical emergency notifications to on-site contacts. By providing staff with the ability to receive rapid notifications of an incident and to contact and inform 9-1-1 directly of an active shooter or other emergency, like a life-threatening medical condition, outcomes are improved.

“We owe it to our students, faculty, and staff to implement the latest technology to improve their safety,” said Chancellor Chris Thomason, of University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. “Everyone on our campus will have increased peace of mind knowing our staff has a powerful safety tool at their fingertips.”

The addition of Rave Panic Button at the Hope campus follows the statewide implementation for all public schools in Arkansas for the 2015-2016 school year. Smart 911 has been available statewide at all Arkansas Public Safety Answering points since 2012, allowing residents and visitors to create a free Safety Profile of information for their household that is immediately available to 9-1-1 in the event they make an emergency call.
