U.S. Highway 82 traffic will begin to move to their final lane configurations beginning Thursday, Feb. 18, depending upon weather conditions. The contractor plans to use flaggers, signs, markings, and other traffic control devices to direct traffic for these lane shifts. Initially, the westbound traffic lane will be shifted north 18 to 24 feet. After additional work is completed to remove existing traffic buttons and pavement markers, the eastbound traffic will be shifted north.

According to TxDOT the contractor anticipates the time to shift both lanes of traffic to be one week, subject to favorable weather conditions. Afterwards, the contractor plans to restripe the pavement under traffic using mobile operations.

Motorists using this section of US 82 in Bowie County are encouraged to seek alternate routes or to expect delays during these lane shift maneuvers. Motorists are also encouraged to pay close attention to new vehicular travel lane locations on US 82, especially when entering US 82 from side streets or driveways.

Drivers are encouraged to use extra precaution when traveling this section of highway as motorists become accustom to the new traffic pattern. The construction schedule and changes in traffic patterns can change due to inclement weather or other unforeseen problems.
